چکیده

We demonstrate both numerically and experimentally that the phase-change due to fiber nonlinearities induces a bitpattern-dependent rotation of the state-of-polarization which translates to uncertainty in the principal states of polarization. This effect severely limits the performance of the first-order PMD post-compensation and suggests the use of in-line compensators. Our simulation shows that fiber nonlinearities cause significant distortion (more than 4-dBm Q-penalty after 600-km transmission at 10 Gbit/s) after first-order PMD compensation. For optical powers as low as 3 dBm/channel in systems where PMD is not uniformly distributed along the transmission link, first-order PMD compensation may be ineffective. 2005 Elsevier B.V. Polarization Mode Dispersion compensation in WDM system using dispersion compensating fibre

In this paper, the polarization mode dispersion in eight channel WDM system is evaluated by considering one even channel and one odd channel performance parameters like BER and Q-factor. As PMD effects transmission at high bit rates so it is compensated with the help of dispersion compensating fibre at different distances by controlling the polarising angle with the help of polarization control...

Suppression of Four Wave Mixing Based on the Pairing Combinations of Differently Linear-Polarized Optical Signals in WDM System

Data transmission in optical systems and increased transmission distance capacity benefit by using optical amplification wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technology. The combination of four waves (FWM) is a non-linear effect in the wavelength division multiplex (WDM), when more than two wavelengths of light in a fiber launch will occur. FWM amount depends on the channel, the channel spaci...

Polarization Related Tests for Coherent Detection Systems

Coherent detection with polarization division multiplexing (PDM) has emerged as the key technology enabler for 40 Gbps and 100 Gbps networks because it significantly increases the spectral efficiency of each channel and allows each channel to transmit at a high bit rate with relatively small optical bandwidth. Consequently, 40 Gbps, 100 Gbps, or even 160 Gbps channels can be transmitted over ex...

Calculation of Penalties Due to Polarization Effects in a Long-Haul WDM System Using a Stokes Parameter Model

We derive a Stokes parameter model to calculate the penalties due to the combination of polarization mode dispersion (PMD), polarization dependent loss (PDL), and polarization dependent gain (PDG) in long-haul, dense wavelength divison multiplexed (WDM) systems. In this model, we follow the Stokes parameters for the signal and the noise in each channel instead of following the full time domain ...
